ADDITIONAL HULA/TAHITIAN SAMPLER DETAILS:
Duration: Hula or Tahitian dance is about 2 to 5 minutes in length, depending on song.
- Audience participation lesson is about 7 to 15 minutes, depending on audience.
Hula vs. Tahitian: What's the difference?
While there are many views, here is a simplified explanation:
1. Location: Hula is from Hawai`i and Tahitian dance is from Tahiti.
2. Music: Hula generally is done to `ukulele or guitar music.
Tahitian dances is usually danced to drum music.
3. Tempo: Although there are variations, Hula is a little slower paced.
Tahitian is usually faster paced.
4. Costume: Hula is sometimes danced with dresses, leis, t-skirts.
Tahitian dance is done in pareo (sarongs), rafia hip bands, coconuts.
5. Audience Participation: Hula lesson will have more hand motions.
Tahitian lesson will have a lot of hip shaking and be faster paced.
*Polynesian dance usually refers to a combination of dances from
all over Polynesia. A show with Polynesian dance may include
hula, Tahitian dance, fireknife dance, Maori poi or fire poi, etc.
Substitutions: Hula or Tahitian dance may be substituted with audience participation lesson
or vice versa with management's approval.
You may submit an early request that the dance selected be one that
can be either a dance or audience participation lesson. This way, depending
on your audience's mood, they can sit back and enjoy the show or participate
in a fun lesson. We make every effort to honor your requests.
However, please remember requests must receive management's approval.
